Certification in Gifted
or Talented:
Gifted and Talented teachers have some of the
highest overall job satisfaction ratings of all
educational professionals. Working with children who have
exceptional academic or artistic abilities, however, also can be
very challenging. G/T teachers must be some of the best
prepared professionals in the system. Each typically holds
an advanced degree with special certification in Gifted or
Talented education. In Baton Rouge, the AGTS serves as a
local professional society and G/T teachers also are supported
by a strong network of peer professionals with regular
in-service training. Unfortunately, the demand for well
qualified Gifted and Talented teachers always exceeds their
availability. We encourage young teachers to consider
certification in this area and outline below the Louisiana
requirements for Certification and links to local degree
programs offering this specialized training.
