The Baton Rouge Chapter of the Association of Gifted and
Talented Students is pleased to make available small grants to
Gifted and Talented program teachers of the EBR
Parish Public School System. These grants are intended to be
used for new, special, innovative and creative projects,
equipment, materials and programs that will enrich and enhance
the experience of public school students in our Parish. Funding
may be used for any relevant academic activity. Appropriate
uses would include, but are not limited to: the production or
purchase of teaching materials, supplies, environmental
enhancements, classroom visits by specialists or resource
persons, and research projects.
Grants are available to individual Gifted and Talented program
instructors or groups of instructors at the elementary, middle
and high school levels. The total award pool is limited to
$1,500.00. We expect to make up to 3 individual awards from
this pool but the actual number of awards is not limited and may
range from 0 upwards. Proposals will be judged according to
their potential for enhancing the learning experience of public
school children. Preference will be given to projects deemed
most likely to make a permanent contribution or that help
generate longer term grant funding. Proposals that request
funding for travel alone will be given lower priority in the
selection process. Applications must be received by 30
June 2003
for projects to be implemented during the normal school semester
in the Spring and Fall of the next academic year.
Proposals should include a cover letter identifying the name(s)
and work location(s) of the individual(s) involved and signed by
the applicant(s). A letter of concurrence in the application
from the school principal and a current Curriculum Vita of the
applicant(s) also is required. The body of the grant proposal
should not exceed 3 typed pages and should include the following
elements: 1) Abstract (briefly describing the project),
2) Introduction and Background (providing
the reviewer a fundamental understanding of the problem or
situation to be addressed), 3) Objectives (1-4 sentence
clear statement of exactly what will be done), 4)
Significance (detailing the expected immediate and possible
secondary benefits of the project), and 5) Budget
(itemizing expected expenditures by category, being sure to
include transportation and other additional costs typically
involved in procurement).
Successful award recipients will be notified directly and
announced on this web site. Awardees will be expected to
provide a written report on the grant funded activity upon its
completion, or by December 31, 2004, and, they will be asked to
share information about their projects with interested faculty
and staff during the grant period. For questions or additional
information direct inquiries to the Baton Rouge Chapter of the
AGTS or the e-mail contact listed above. We look forward to
receiving your applications and encourage your involvement.
