Finding the right program for your child can be difficult. You can check guidelines by the Council for Exceptional Children  a few hints in making your selection.
 

 
There are numerous summer study opportunities for gifted and talented children in the Baton Rouge Area.  The AGTS frequently has brochures available and representatives often attend our Spring membership meeting.  Listed below are a few links to local programs.

Elementary School Children:

Live! Learn! Louisiana!  at the Louisiana State Museum

LSU College of Education Assistant Professor Jennifer Jolly from the Department of Educational Theory, Policy, and Practice will host a two-week Gifted Summer Program that assists gifted and talented children in creating an independent study project.  June 7-11 and 14-18, 8:30 - 11:00 am Contact: jjolly@lsu.edu or 225 578-2049

Baton Rouge Community College: In past years, BRCC has offered Art and Entertainment Technology Camp: Includes drawing/2D design and sculpture, Game Making/Animation, Digital Photography, Photoshop and Movie Making. Torrence Creative Scholars
  This program is designed to recognize and nurture highly creative students. Sponsored by the University of Louisiana at Lafayette's Center for Gifted Education, it is the only program of its kind in the nation.

High School :

LSU Get Animated! Summer Camp

June 7-11 2010 (9 a.m. - 3 p.m. each day)

Shaw Center for the Arts, downtown Baton Rouge

LSU’s Center for Computation & Technology (CCT), Red Stick International Animation Festival and the LSU Arts, Visualization, Advanced Technologies and Research, or AVATAR, Initiative in digital media are hosting LSU Get Animated! Summer Camp to give students experience creating original animations and developing skills for careers in animation, video game design, electronic composition, and more. During this camp, students will work in small groups and produce an original animated film on a topic of their choice, which they are welcome to submit to festivals or film competitions. The films students create during the camp will be screened at the 6th annual Red Stick International Animation Festival, Nov. 10-13 in downtown Baton Rouge.

Who Can Participate: Baton Rouge and surrounding area middle and high school students (grades 6-12) with an interest in digital media and/or animation. 

Registration & Submissions: Students wishing to register must visit http://www.cct.lsu.edu/animate and submit 1) the registration form, 2) a short statement describing their interest in digital media and/or animation, how they are engaged in this activity already, if they are considering digital media as a career option, etc. and 3) a sample of their creative and/or artistic work (drawing, writing, music composition, short animation, etc.) Please submit applications and art work samples by e-mail to: Karen Jones, LSU CCT, kjones@lsu.edu, or by fax: 225-578-8902, or mailed to:  LSU CCT, Attn:  Karen Jones, 216 Johnston Hall, Baton Rouge, LA  70803. 

Fee/Supplies: Registration fee: $250. Please do not send money when registering.  Students will be notified if they have been accepted into the camp, and fees will be due at that time.  Students must bring their own lunch, sketchbook and sketch pencils to the camp, and are responsible for their transportation to and from the camp each day. 

Deadline:  Submissions must be received by close of business Friday, April 9, 2010.
